Scout Notebook 2020/2021

The 2020/2021 classes have a lot of talent that cannot be covered in one scout book. As the season has gone on a lot of 2021 players have made their way up to varsity. There are a lot of players that we have missed especially in the Kansas City area. We will continue to post these scout books throughout the year as we increase our inventory of players that will one day fill our rankings. Keep an eye out for the final touches on the class of 2018 and our first revealing on the 2019 class.  All stats are up to May 11th.

Aaron Moss (Lindbergh, 2021) – Another freshman catcher from Lindbergh. Moss possesses a strong arm and enough athleticism to play on the INF. He has a lot of room to grow and improve his body and fielding. He is hitting .329 on the year with 8 SB. Moss has shown plate discipline as a freshman with 11 walks to his 8 strikeouts.

Jack Lawton (Timberland, 2021) – Pitching in 5 games as a freshman on an 18-win team is no easy task. When Lawton is able to command the zone he will take the next step. He is holding his hitters to an extremely low average but gets in trouble with the free passes. If he can take the next step there is innings to take next season.

Gavin Baldwin (Nashville, 2021) – It can be easy to get lost at a small school, but Baldwin is making that hard to do. Baldwin has 8 HR and 36 RBI on the year. Both near the top of the state. He has 11 2Bs and a .314 Avg to go along with those numbers. Baldwin is already making a impression on D1 schools and will do even more damage once he cuts down his strikeouts.

Cole Malawy (Nashville, 2021) – Another Nashville product that is excelling as a freshman. Malawy is getting it done hitting .341 with 19 RBI and 14 SB. He is a top of the order guy that finds a way to get on base with 25 walks. He has a singles approach and will start using his speed in the gaps and he develops more strength.

Jack Weber (Chaminade, 2021) – Being a late call up usually means you are along to get some exposure and enjoy the ride. Weber made a late season push for the 3B spot and has made the most of his time. He is hitting .364 and earning his at bats. Chaminade is 17-11 and has needed the production from the three-bagger. Look for Weber to be a follow in the 2021 class.

Jack Hunke (Holt, 2021) – Another late season call up for the 23-4 Holt squad. Hunke has the tough task of facing Westminster before Districts. He held his own only giving up 2 earned runs and striking out three. Hunke already runs it up into the mid 80’s and has long limbs that will create more velocity soon. He is listed at 6-2 but will grow over the next few years. Hunke is in the running for the top arm in the class of 2021.

Brennan Orf (Westminster, 2020) – 35 RBI would be a team high on most teams. However, he is one of five players that have 30+ RBI on the team. Orf has held his own in a powerful lineup adding 2 HR. He will be one of the top returning bats for the Wildcats. With a lefty swing and 6-4 frame, Orf will be a high follow for most schools this summer.

Tyler Purdum (Parkway West, 2020) – Another key contributor on a record setting Longhorns team. Purdum hit 3 HR and 21 RBI to go along with a .314 AVG. Once he can show better bat control you could see a hitter that does a lot of damage. He also pitched in 6 games gaining 2 wins. Looks to be low to mid 80’s this summer.

Joel Ottensmeyer (Parkway West, 2020) – He is one of the best catchers in the state with a .986 fielding %. Ottensmeyer will add weight and be even more of a presence at the plate. He hit .294 with 12 RBI and produces a lot of line drives.

Tyler Kotsis (FZW, 2020) – Kotsis is the only underclassmen on the Jaguars and it is rightfully earned. He hit .314 with 14 RBI and will be able to take the SS position for the next two seasons. He is able to contribute on the mound as well in the coming seasons. He will only get better as he matures as an athlete.

Brandon Hager (Lutheran South, 2020) – Hager started at catcher for the Class 4A second place team in 2017. This year he is leading the Lancers back on a similar path. He is a big body behind the plate and can swing it hitting .392. He has 2 HR and 19 RBI to go along with only 3 errors behind the dish. Hager has the ability to stick behind the plate as he matures.

Jacob Hager (Lutheran South, 2020) – Another Hager for the Lancers equals another 2 HR and 20 RBI. Hager is hitting .375 as a switch hitter and plays up the middle at SS. Hager possesses the same build as his brother and a great opportunity to lead the next wave of Lancers at a cornerstone position.

Cade Hohl (SLUH, 2020) – With a quick first step, Hohl has impressed at SS. He is hitting .394 this season with only three errors. He has an easy leg lift that can be cut down to help his timing. He blocks well with his front leg and produces line drives up the middle and to his pull side.

Brayden Wingenbach (Summit, 2020) – Another two-way player that can handle each the pressure for a team going deep in districts. He has appeared in 8 games with 21 IP and 20 Ks. He is able to control the zone and limit his walks and damage with a 2.67 ERA.  He is also hitting .289 with 23 RBI, which is third on the team. Wingenbach will be a main stay on the Falcons for another two seasons.

Pat Deemer (MICDS, 2020) – 6-4 lefties don’t grow on trees and Deemer has a frame that can add a lot of Lbs. over the next few seasons. He has pitched in 8 games this season with 32 Ks in 20 IP. He will develop into one of the top arms in the 2020 class as he fills out.

Logan Reidelberger (FZS. 2021) – Another player that was brought up during the season and having major success in his freshman season. Reidelberger is hitting .346 with 8 RBI. He is also a primary catcher with a .952 Fielding %. He has a tall stance from the left side and a quick line drive stroke. More power should come as he fills out his frame.

Jake Markert (FZS, 2021) – Another freshman from south that is producing with a .294 AVG and 6 RBI. He is a SS that has the tools but needs to clean up his defense for the Varsity level. He has a strong arm for the position and you can tell he has a lot of growing to do.

Kannon Nesslage (Kirkwood, 2021) – Adding a 6-4 pitcher to an already deep pitching stuff is just what you need during a district run. Nesslage threw five scoreless innings during the last week of the season and picked up a save against an 18 win Lindbergh squad. At only 165 Lbs. he has a chance to add a lot to his frame over the next 3 seasons. He is a multi-sport athlete that should see his stock rise this summer.

Noah Lampros (St. Pius X, 2020) - Another young backstop that has started since his freshman year. Posting a .978 fielding % and a .340 AVG on the season. He has a large 6-3 frame and a strong arm for the position. Could develop into an arm on the mound down the road.
